04 / THINK DEEPER

Find your second thought.

A useful routine for the timer: recognise the category, keep a safe candidate, then search a different corner of your memory.

SOURCE CHECKED / 16 OCTOBER 2026

The routines below are our editorial suggestions. They are not official rules or a proven score guarantee.

First, anchor the category

Before reaching for an obscure example, name the boundary in your own mind. Is the question about a place or its capital? A work or its author? A dish or an ingredient? A rare answer outside the requested category is still the wrong kind of answer.

Hold onto one candidate you know fits. That gives you something concrete to compare with a more ambitious option. If your second choice needs a long explanation to justify its inclusion, reconsider it.

Then change where you are searching

The most familiar examples tend to arrive together. Rather than waiting for the same cluster to yield a better item, change an organising axis: another region, another decade, another subcategory, or a less prominent work by someone you already know.

This does not mean every older or foreign-language answer is rare. It is a retrieval technique for finding candidates, not a rarity formula. The official set still decides whether the answer counts and how it scores.

Leave time to enter the answer

The timer includes the practical work of typing. A complicated spelling may cost more confidence than the rarity is worth to you. Read your input once for category and spelling, then commit using the game’s control. Do not depend on generous autocorrect to rescue an entirely different name.

Review one decision after each dive

Use the local dive log to record a brief observation: “confused creator with character,” “waited too long before typing,” or “only searched one region.” These are example notes, not claims about particular official prompts.

On the next practice run, work on that single habit. A lower score with better category discipline can still be useful practice. Totals from different prompt sets cannot isolate the effect of a strategy on their own.

Protect the daily attempt

If comparing the daily challenge matters to you, decide whether you want hints before opening outside material. Practise retrieval in Endless mode, and keep any notes separate from a fresh Daily attempt. This guide has no live daily answers or claim to know today’s hidden gem.
